Interactive music

There’s more to music than the stereo mix. Music can evolve interactively. It happens in video games, responding to play, but generally we just hear it as a fixed, linear thing. It starts, it finishes.  Here’s an innovative website that tracks the social media buzz around the Olympics. The intensity of the graphic and the music is dictated by the social media interactions about sports and athletes. The music is composed by Richard Canavan, who had to deliver his piece as several layers that would work independently or stacked up. We recorded multiple string lines, of varying dynamics and intensity.  Interactive music is a fascinating area of development; there is an online mixer and a loops sequencer on this site.  Like so much in arts an entertainment, music is becoming interactive.
